5 Social Media Trends You Should Know About

With new social media trends coming to fruition weekly, it can be hard to navigate which ones to focus on.

Here are the 5 trends that matter most in 2022:

5 Social Media Trends

Trend 1: Shoppers want to buy directly on social media

Social commerce is when you buy and sell products or services directly from a social media platform. All the major social networks including Instagram and Facebook have invested in social commerce and this trend predicts that they will continue to do so.

According to recent research:

73% of businesses are already participating in social commerce while 79% expect to be doing so in the next three years.

Trend 2: Short and quick content is thriving

One study found that 93% of brands surveyed got a new customer because of a social media video. Another study reveals that over half of video viewers will watch to the end if the video is under a minute long.

Short-form videos are more easily accessible to brands than longer ones. The authentic and lower production nature of Stories and TikTok videos is part of the bigger appeal to consumers.

We recommend setting up a video marketing strategy, following your existing social media strategy. Try posting a video once a week and start seeing the heightened engagement and reach you attract from it.

Trend 3: Influencer marketing will become bigger than it already is

9 out of 10 marketers have used influencer marketing.

Social media platforms are flooded with nano, micro, and macro-influencers. Despite that, there seems to be no saturation point in sight. Businesses are using influencer marketing to promote their products and services time and time again as they see the ROI from the activity.

People trust people, and brands know it.

66% of brands are speculated to increase their influencer marketing budgets this year.

Trend 4: Brands are developing social audio strategies

Audio is nothing new but its appearance on social media is. An audio strategy includes everything from radio to podcasts to music playlists. A social audio strategy narrows it down to the platforms that have audio-only features.

Trend 5: You need to learn paid advertising

The decline in organic reach and the need to increase paid advertising budgets is currently the biggest challenge on social media.

The average organic reach for a Facebook post is a mere 5.2%. This means only 5% of your followers may ever see your posts if you don’t put any paid budget behind them.

We recommend you keep using organic social media content to drive brand awareness, deliver customer service and encourage engagement. Start to use boosted posts and ads to target your target market and uplevel your reach and engagement.
